Self-Care

When clients ask me, “How frequently do you receive bodywork?” I have to admit that it is less than I would like.  Instead I reach for my small blue balls and practice a hands-off bodywork called the MELT Method.   Created by somatic- movement educator and manual therapist, Sue Hitzmann, this self -treatment technique is one of the best ways I know to revitalize and rebalance my body.  It can be done by anyone at any age anywhere. I, personally, find it effective in releasing the stress and strain in my lower back.

Research has revealed that the repetitive physical, emotional, mental and environmental stresses of daily living literally become trapped in the connective tissue (fascia) of our bodies.  Connective tissue is the architectural scaffolding that gives shape to our bodies and keeps us stable. It is a fluid, three dimensional web that seamlessly connects, supports, and surrounds everything in our bodies – muscles, bones, nerves, organs.  It is intelligent and adaptable, constantly morphing to our movements and positions.

As this “stuck stress” accumulates in our bodies it causes the connective tissue to dehydrate from excessive compression, pull and friction.  Like an over used, dried out kitchen sponge, the tissue becomes stiff and inflexible; it cannot absorb water or nutrients efficiently. In turn, this interferes with our nervous system’s ability to regulate itself and slows down the body’s natural healing process. Resulting in a domino effect of aches and pains, and common health issues and injury made manifest.

Melt gives you the tools to rebalance your body, help it heal faster, and                   live a pain-free life.  Using specific techniques with small balls and a soft                 foam roller, connective tissue rehydrates becoming buoyant, flexible, adaptable.  Melt enables you to reconnect with your body, rebalance your nervous system and get your body’s natural healing and repair mechanisms back on track.

As a MELT Hand and Foot Instructor, I find it works beautifully in conjunction with reflexology, deepening and expanding the efficacy of both.
